Dear Brightly was born because Alda and I had to solve a problem we personally experienced. As engineers and loyal retinoid users, we wanted to leverage technology to not only shed light on why retinoids should exist in every bathroom cabinet given how life changing they were for us, but to also provide easier access given the hurdles we went through to get one.
For Alda, her derm initially prescribed a retinoid to clear up her acne. And for me, I had clear skin my entire life until one year bouts of acne, discoloration and uneven skin tone creeped up. The experience of finding and seeing a derm in-person was not only inconvenient, but it was costly. Both of our derms let us in on their secret of the forever benefits of retinoids for photoaging (think pigmentation, fine lines and wrinkles, etc.), and Alda and I to this day continue to use our retinoids (going strong on 10 and 4 years respectively). We have never looked back.
Although retinoids have major photoaging benefits, we want to emphasize that it's not our aim to send the message that we should look "younger" or "perfect" though. We banned the word "anti-aging" for a reason. Our aim is to create a world where every person feels enough and secure in their own skin. We are choosing to forget perfection and live as our optimal selves. Today and every day, illuminate you!

A walk through retinoid history
With over 40 years of research proving its efficacy and long-term benefits and safety, retinoids are scientifically proven to improve fine lines and wrinkles, pigmentation, uneven skin tone, and enlarged pores. They were first FDA approved in 1971 as a treatment for acne, but has since been recognized as a treatment for signs of photoaging in the 1980s. Topical retinoids are one of the most effective skincare products for signs of photoaging in the market.
